 2023 Preview 


       Decatur Heritage Christian completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Decatur Heritage Christian finished sixth in Class 1A region seven with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       Decatur Heritage Christian took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. The Eagles lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The Eagles hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 10-3 record in 2021.

       Since 2010, Decatur Heritage Christian has gone a combined 91-55. Their 62.3% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 13 seasons, Decatur Heritage Christian has managed to compile a record of 91-55. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 1A and 81st in the AHSAA.




       The Eagles are led by head coach Nikita Stover who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Decatur Heritage Christian. The Eagles have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Stover.

       The Eagles finished 4-6 but lost four games by ten points or less last season. The team is looking to turn it around this season to get them back to where they belong.

       The Eagles could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Decatur Heritage Christian came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

       The Eagles open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Section on Friday, August 25 at Rebels Stadium, West Morgan. Last year the Section Lions finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 2A region seven.

       Decatur Heritage Christian and Section have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 2-0-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2022 with Decatur Heritage Christian winning by a score of 24-22.

       Decatur Heritage Christian lost 1A All-State  quarterback Bo Solley to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

       The Eagles return 1A All-State Senior athlete Jaxon Thomas. He was named to the second team last season.

The first football game played by a high school team in Alabama was in 1892 when Central Birmingham (Phillips) lost to Alabama 56-0 on November 11.
